biological characteristics

Adaptable to forests and open areas. Tend to make their nests in open habitats and sometimes share habitat with eagles. Generally nocturnal, can be spotted all year round, especially at dusk and early evening.

Listed as Least Concern (IUCN red data list).


  • The European eagle owl cannot be found in the wild in the United Kingdom (unless they have been illegally released), as they were heavily hunted                          during the 19th Century.
