Distribution
Northern Brazil, Guyana.
Habitat
They live in dry forests of Guyana and Brazil but can also be seen flying through Savannah areas.
Our Sun Conures
We received our Sun Conures from another zoo. There is a male and two females. Hopefully now that they are settled into their enclosure we will have chicks this year.

- Populations are in decline due to hunting for feathers and the illegal pet trade, habitat loss is also a serious risk to these birds.
- These are very sociable birds often living in large flocks.
- Their loud, high-pitched calls can reach up to 120 decibels.
- They often feed in the tree-tops where they dine on fruits, nuts seeds and berries.
Biological Characteristics
These medium sized, vibrantly colored parrots can be known as the sun parakeet. They forage for food on the forest floor and tree canopies feeding on a diet of fruit, berries, flowers, blossoms and insects. They can also live up to 30 years.
